This section is here to provide clarity and awhi, covering the questions we’re most often asked. If you can’t find what you’re looking for, please reach out. We’re more than happy to kōrero and help guide you through the process with manaaki and aroha.

What does Uruuruwhenua do?

At Uruuruwhenua we walk alongside whānau using the Te Whare Tapa Whā model – supporting wellbeing across wairua, tinana, hinengaro and whānau. We’re here to offer awhi, guidance, and advocacy in both the health and social sectors.

From immunisations and health checks to support through the impacts of family violence, our services are grounded in manaakitanga and whakawhanaungatanga. We also offer mirimiri, a fully equipped gym, and kaupapa for kaumātua, We offer māmā and pēpi support group – especially during those important first 2000 days. We are here to help whānau set goals and walk alongside them to reach them.

What do you offer?

We provide holistic, whānau-centred support grounded in the Te Whare Tapa Whā model. Our services are designed to uplift and empower, helping whānau to thrive in all areas of their wellbeing.

We offer:

  • Personalised health and wellbeing plans

  • Goal setting and support to achieve your aspirations

  • Vaccinations and general health checks

  • Referrals to trusted third-party services

  • Counselling and support for family violence, alcohol and drug addiction

  • Budgeting support and financial referrals

  • Mirimiri and traditional healing practices

  • Access to our community gym

  • Waka ama and other physical wellbeing initiatives

  • School holiday kaupapa for tamariki and rangatahi

Everything we do is about walking alongside you and your whānau – with aroha, respect, and a deep commitment to your journey.

Do I have to be māori?

No, Uruuruwhenua provides support to all ethnicities. We use a Māori model of support, but welcome all whānau.

How much does it cost?

Uruuruwhenua do not charge for our services. Some vaccinations may incur charges if you are not eligible, but talk to our nurse to find out.

What areas do you work in?

Our kaimahi cover from Roxburgh to Maniatoto, Alexandra, Cromwell and Tāhuna. We also try to support whānau in wanaka if capacity allows.

Can you pay for things for me?

We can support you to get to budgeting services or talking to other service providers to see if you may be eligible to get costs covered. We can also see if you are eligible for a GP voucher to reduce the costs of your appointments.

What counselling do you provide?

Our counselling services are currently for Family Violence and drug and alcohol. We can refer to brief intervention and help support to other counselling services if required.

What help can we get from the nurse?

Our nurse offers general health checks, diabetes checks, blood pressure and sexual health checks. We also offer blood tests. We offer vaccinations and outreach clinics. We cannot prescribe you medication. We can also support you with getting access to your GP or other health services.
